Amethyst is a violet/purple variety of Quartz. The name comes from the Greek and means "not drunken." The ancient Greeks wore amethyst and carved drinking vessels from it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication.
Amethyst is a stone of divine connection and spirituality. It promotes love of the divine, giving insights into its true nature, and encouraging selflessness and spiritual wisdom. It opens intuition and enhances psychic gifts. Amethyst is a Master stone for meditation and can be placed on the third eye for stimulation. Amethyst also balances emotional highs and lows and is an excellent stone for addictive behaviors.
As a Geode, this specimen is a natural rock formation that contains a cavity lined with crystals. These crystals are often called "druzy". They are very tiny, sparkling, and filled with light and wonder. Geodes are formed with a hollow interior, within a layer of rock. The rock they are formed in typically is created by volcanic forces or chemical precipitation. The word Geode comes from the Greek term, "Geodes", which means Earth-like.
